  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (unsalted) butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Method

Preheat oven to 325 degree F. Line large baking sheet(s) with parchment paper or a baking mat. In a medium bowl stir together flour, baking powder and salt. In an electric mixer beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla, mixing well. Gradually add flour mixture and mix until a soft dough forms. Chill, if necessary. Using about a tablespoon or so of dough, roll into a log about 4-inches long and 1/2-inch wide. Place on prepared baking sheet. Press a nut into one end of each log for the fingernail. Using a fork, press each cookie to make knuckles. Repeat with remaining dough. Bake until cookies are firm and light brown, 12 - 15 minutes. Remove from oven, cool for 10 minutes. Transfer cookies to a rack and cool completely. In a small bowl mix the powdered sugar with the food coloring. Dust each cookie with sugar.

Notes: Very simple. Let your children help with these.
