Gramma D's Sugar Cookies

These buttery-rich cut-out sugar cookies have lemon extract for flavor and contain baking soda and cream of tartar.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons lemon extract
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt

Method
Cream together butter, margarine and sugar until creamy. Add eggs and lemon extract then mix well. Sift together dry ingredients and add to butter and margarine mixture, then chill overnight. Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out cookies with cookie cutters and bake, at 350 degrees, 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 3 minutes before transfering to wire racks to finish cooling. Frost cookies with lemon frosting to desired consistency.
Notes: Dough can be frozen up to 2 months. For variation, sustitute 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract instead of lemon, and frost with regular confectioners' sugar frosting, tinted to desired colors.
