Christmas (Butter) Cookies

Buttery and crisp, these cutout cookies are sure to please. Decorate with your favorite icing.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/4 tsp. salt

Method
In a large mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt. Add to creamed mixture and beat until combined. Chill dough about 2 to 3 hours or until easy to handle. Roll dough out on well-floured surface. Cut with cookie cutters into desired shapes. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 6 minutes or until edges just start to brown. Remove and cool on wire racks.
Notes: Take care not to burn cookies as they cook fast.
