Chocolate Hazelnut Toffee Squares

Hazelnut liqueur, cardamon and curry flavor these unique adult cookies--topped with melted chocolate and hazelnuts.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup hazelnut liqueur
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/4 teaspoon curry powder
- 2 semisweet chocolate cubes, chopped
- 1 cup toasted hazelnuts, coarsely chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9 X 13 inch baking pan. In a large bowl, blend butter, brown sugar, egg and liqueur. Stir in flour, salt, cardamom and curry. Spread batter in prepared pan and bake 15-20 minutes until golden. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate and nuts then return to oven for 5 minutes. Gently smooth chocolate and nut mixture over bars. Let cool and cut into squares.
Notes: These are definitely adult bars, with hazelnut liqueur, savory spices, and toasted nuts. I like to serve them with coffee for an elegant dessert. They also make a nice addition to a dessert buffet.
