Chameleon Bars

Melted caramels make up the middle of these bars, between layers of dough made with cake mix. Chocolate M&M candies and nuts are sprinkled on top.
Ingredients
- 1 pkg yellow cake mix
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 eggs
- 1 bag caramels
- 1/4 cup evaporated milk
- 1 bag M&M's chocolate candies
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Method
Mix cake mix, oil, eggs and water. Spray a 9x13" pan with nonstick spray. Pat HALF of the mixture into pan. Unwrap caramels, add evaporated milk and heat in microwave-safe bowl on high for 1 minute. Stir and melt for another minute, continuing until caramels are melted and creamy. Pour over batter. Drop spoonfuls of remaining batter over top of caramel. Sprinkle with M&M's and nuts. Bake for 30 minutes in 350 degree oven. Cool and cut in to squares.
Notes: These Chameleon Bars are easy and adaptable to the time of year. Depending on the season, they can be made with appropriately colored M&M's. For a variation, use Reeses Pieces, white chocolate chips, or Heath bits instead of M&M's.
